“Do you remember where you were and what went through in your mind when you heard about the shootings that broke out of the protest in Dallas?
I was about two-and-a-half hours south of Dallas filming for my show. I had been filming all day. Then I picked up my phone only to realize that at the time two or three cops were killed. It overwhelmed me because in my mind I was like, damn, now we’re seeing all of this division and tension come to a head. And now people are killing cops systematically. We are so divided now that this is seen as a viable option. And it kind of scared me a little bit.”
“Can guns rights activists like you support the Black Lives Matter movement at the same time as supporting NRA values?
My biggest contention with the Black Lives Matter movement is that there’s seemingly really no structure of what it sets out to do, so from my end it seems kind of chaotic. There are a number of good people who are a part of Black Lives Matter who want to fix the issues, who want to do it. But at the same time there are a lot of people also who want to make a lot of noise and do nothing but garner attention. Then on top of them, what you get is they really just want to instigate just to instigate. I’m not talking about the movement as a whole, but people in it that taint it. Right now I think Black Lives Matter has an optics problem.
As far as I’m concerned, if you are a believer in the Second Amendment and a law abiding citizen’s ability to hold a firearm, I don’t see why the two are mutually exclusive.”
