Born to her father, Kemp Kernstine, and mother, Cassandra Ortenblad Kernstine, she grew up with four siblings named Meghan, Kendal, Keene, and Kemp Jr.
The news anchor does not shy away from featuring them occasionally on her social media accounts.
Besides, her father, Kemp, is a doctor who trained to become one of the best general thoracic surgeons.
He is currently associated with the University of Texas Southwestern’s Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center in Dallas, Texas.
Further, with nearly three decades of experience, he heads the medical center’s Division of Thoracic Surgery.
Kemp specializes in surgical evaluation and treatment of lung, mesothelioma, thymic, and esophageal cancers.
His achievements with malignant and benign chest disease have been recognized in the United States and internationally.
Sadly, Kernstine’s mother, Cassandra, sadly passed away from Leukemia at 60 on March 3, 2019, in the arms of her loving husband.
Born on July 1, 1958, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to father Warren and mother Patricia Ortenblad, the anchor’s mom was passionate and multi-talented.
Cassandra graduated from Forest Lake High School and received multiple degrees, including a nursing degree from Anoka Ramsey Community College.
Additionally, an undergraduate at Harvard University, Cassandra completed a Master of Science in Nursing at Duke University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas in Arlington.
Moreover, she completed her certification in Integrative Health at Duke University.
Kelsey Kernstine remembers her mother as one of the influential figures in her life and has expressed her gratitude towards her throughout the years.
