Mawae was born to Sgt. 1st Class David Mawae, who worked for Hunter Army Airfield when the footballer was born. Being an army son, Kevin spent his childhood in different places. Mawae lived in Fort Riley, Kansas, from age five to seven. Kevin then moved to Hanau (Germany) as his father was stationed at Fliegerhorst Army Airfield.

The player started playing football in Hanau. After that, Kevin’s father was stationed at Fort Polk, near Leesville, Louisana, where the player continued his studies.

Before Kevin started his NFL journey, he had a brother named John. The tragic passing of John in an accident took a toll on Mawae. The death of his brother made Kevin develop a strong faith in Christianity. Unfortunately, there isn’t much information regarding the player’s mother.

In the 1994 NFL draft, Mawae was selected by the Seattle Seahawks and played with the team for four more years. In 1998, Kevin signed New York Jets and played over 170 games with the team. However, because of his injury, he missed a season and was dropped by New York Jets in March of 2006.

Mawae got signed by Tennesse Titans in the same year, whom the player played for until the end of his career. After 16 years of playing in the field, the footballer announced his retirement on September 10, 2010. The footballer played his last game at the 2009 pro ball in February 2010.
