George taught science to eighth graders. When he went to them, he felt they weren’t as eager as he had been during his teenage years. This made him pursue a different field, and he started to study physical therapy, where he developed an interest in neuroscience.

Then, he also practiced PT and taught it while he enrolled as a Ph.D. student in the Department of Neurobiology, Anatomy, and Cell Science. His research was related to physiology, anatomy, and the behaviors of rats. George is remembered for his teaching expertise.

Furthermore, he also received the university’s Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award because of his illustrative and innovative ways of explaining concepts to students. Moreover, George is remembered for his sense of humor in the classroom. The Carvell family had requested the guests to wear the Pitt colors of gold and blue.
